BOMBARDIER

Ultrasonic non-descructive testing machine

Following the success of the automated rivetting tool project performed at CANADAIR by Microtrol, we were requested by the same customer to upgrade an ultrasound non-destructive analysis robot whose performances did not meet the new quality and reliability standards.

Large aircraft parts (4 meters by 3 meters) are swept both horizontally and vertically by ultrasound transmitters / receivers. To compensate for curved parts, the transmitters / receivers are each mounted on rotary and linear axis. The robot has seven motion axes to effect the analysis.

With Tektrend's help, Microtrol has created a data acquisition and control system based on the PC platform. The computer controls the trajectories and the data acquisition from the ultrasonic receiver during the analysis. Another computer, hooked by network, treats, analyzes, prints, and archives the data.

The robot sweeps the parts at a rate of one meter per second, which allows for a high productivity rate.
